In what is being considered as a major breakthrough, rather a vital step towards the development of a vaccine, scientists from Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre have completed the genome sequencing of coronavirus. According to the scientists, they also found three new mutations of the virus alongwith six mutations that have already been found elsewhere in the world. Earlier, the National Institute of Virology in Pune had separated the strands of the virus.
India is taking a lead in the world’s fight against coronavirus. In the middle of March, Indian doctors came to spotlight globally by curing Italian patients of coronavirus by using a mix of HIV, swine flu and malaria drugs. It is India only which has opened the doors for the possibility of treatment of coronavirus patients using the anti malarial drug hydroxycholoroquine. Due to certain side effects of the drug that may occur, research is still on if the drug can be used frequently to treat COVID 19 patients. However, the Indian Council of Medical Research has recommended the use of this drug under exceptional circumstances’ as a line of treatment against high risk patients. India is also making use of digital technology to help people keep a track of those suffering from COVID19. The app that is available for download on smartphones can enable you to figure out using GPS tracker if there are any coronavirus patients nearby your location. It thus helps in alerting citizens so that they can take precautions.
