Modi Government evicts record 1,531 number of illegal occupants from Lutyens Delhi
India Speaks daily Bureau. The Narendra Modi Government has evicted a record number of overstaying illegal occupants from Government accommodation. Member of parliament Babul Supriyo informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 1,531 houses were vacated under the provisions of Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act during the last three years.
The number of houses vacated has increased three times under the Modi Government. Urban development ministry data, furnished by minister of state Babul Supriyo in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, reveals 246 houses were vacated in 2013 under Congress-led UPA government. This number more than doubled in 2014 and then jumped to 746 in 2015 under the Modi government. However, 1,207 houses are still under unauthorized occupation in Delhi.
Supriyo informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 1,531 houses were vacated under the provisions of Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act during the last three years. These included 246 evictions in 2013, 539 in 2014 and 746 in 2015. He also stated that while only 10 houses of higher type (Type VB to Type VIII) were vacated in 2013, it has increased to 69 in 2014 and 20 in 2015.
Supriyo said 1,207 government houses of different types are under unauthorized occupation which account for about 2% of the total houses under General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) in Delhi. These included 299 houses in the lowest categories of Type-1 and Type-1 S, 472 Type-2 houses, 202 Type-III houses, 189 Type-IV and Type-IV S, 20 Type-V (A and B), 5 in hostel accommodation category, 16 Type-6 (A and B) besides only 4 Type-VII houses and one Type-VIII Of the houses under unauthorized occupation, 36 cases are before the Courts, 33 are with Kashmiri migrants and 27 are with journalists.
Former Home Minister Buta Singh and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Vir Bhadra Singh have moved the court against their eviction from government bungalows in Delhi. One Type-VII accommodation is under the occupation of former Union Minister Jaswant Singh who is seriously ill.
