Vivekananda, in his book Raj Yoga, describes a Raj Yogi thus: “The man who has discovered and learned how to manipulate the internal forces will get the whole of nature under his control. The Yogi
proposes to himself no less a task than to master the whole universe, to control the whole of nature. He wants to arrive at the point where what we call “nature’s laws” will have no influence over him, where he will be able to get beyond them all. He will be master of the whole of nature, internal and external. The progress and civilisation of the human race simply mean controlling this nature.”
To make it more simpler to understand, Vivekananda further writes: “There is a belief that the mind is simply a finer part of the body, and that mind acts upon the body, then it stands to reason that the body must react upon the mind. If the body is sick, the mind becomes sick also. If the body is
healthy, the mind remains healthy and strong. When one is angry, the mind becomes disturbed.”
Swamiji further writes: “How has all the knowledge in the world been gained but by the concentration of the powers of the mind? The world is ready to give up its secrets if we only know how to knock, how to give it the necessary blow. The strength and force of the blow come through concentration. There is no
limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more power is brought to bear on one point; that is the secret.”
The abstract of this speech is that a Raj Yogi is someone who has command over his body and mind, which helps him to control internal and external worlds.
Probably, if there is a closests of examples of Swami Vivekananda’s Raj Yogi is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Almost everyday, he faces tons of abuse from his rivals, but he is least bothered about it, for he has learnt the art of a Raj Yogi, who commands control over his anger and other negative neurological byproducts, which allows him to work relentlessly for the betterment of mankind.
This trait of the Prime Minister is quite evident in this story, at a time, when the governments world over are combating the coronavirus epidemic and their efforts to bring their citizens from affected countries.
A father of a woman, who has been critical of Modi’s government in the past, has thanked the Prime Minister for evacuating her daughter from Italy, which is among the worst affected countries, where 2500 people have died from coronavirus.
“Wow!!! Honestly, I used to blame Indian government for many years, but finally realised the Modi government is like a fatherly figure,” the father said.
Sujay Kadam, the father of the woman put up in Mumbai, wrote in a letter that his daughter had been to Milan for higher studies. Following the outbreak of coronavirus in Italy, she was asked to return to India, but could not get necessary certificate from the Indian Embassy as it was closed.
After failing to establish a contact thorugh telephone, Kadam shot off an email to some staff after collecting addresses from their website at 8.30 am IST on March 12. To his excitement, he got a phone call from his daughter on the same day, informing that she has been contacted by embassy staff and she will be on a flight back to India on the very next day.
The daughter arrived in India on March 15 and has been quarantined at ITPB hospital where food, stay and medicines are all free of cost.
“I don’t have words to express my happiness. Grateful to the people who work in Indian Embassy in Milan, and the people who are taking care of my daughter, including the Air India crew members and ITBP Hospital staff. Hats off to the Indian government. Especially to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Kadam said.
