For the past few years, slowly but surely, the pattern of Rahul Gandhi’s attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Chinese issues is getting known.
Consider this: During Doklam standoff in 2017, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi and his party had waged a pitched battle against Narendra Modi government, but hardly criticised the Dragon country.
Rahul Gandhi’s tone is the same. It is 2020 now. This time he is critical about an apparent Chinese incursions in the Galwan Valley of Eastern Ladakh, but haven’t spoken anything against China, even after Indian Army lost 20 of its jawans in a clash with PLA soldiers.
What is it that Rahul Gandhi does not have a word uttered against China and its leaders?
Probably, it could be the secret pact between Congress party and Communist Party of China, which was signed in August 2008. It provided opportunities for both the parties to consult each other on important bilateral, regional and international developments, like the one the country is witnessing at Galwan valley, where 43 PLA soldiers were mercilessly killed by Bihar Regiment troops and Ghatak Jawans.
Interestingly, the MoU was signed between the then Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and the then Chinese Vice President and CPC Politburo’s Standing Committee Member Xi Jinping, who is now the lifelong President of China.
The MoU was signed in the presence of his mother and Party President Sonia Gandhi, who had visited Beijing along with Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka, son-in-law Robert Vadra and their two children to witness the Opening Ceremony of Olympic Games as state guests.
The secret deal, however, came to light when Left parties in India had locked horn with the Congress over the nuclear pact with US government.
A year before, in 2007, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had also led a delegation of the Congress to China.
Not only MoUs, Rahul Gandhi has deep connections with China. The Gandhi scion had a secret meeting with Chinese leadership, especially when his party had criticise Modi government over its standoff with China at Doklam. This meeting had raised suspicion about his and party’s intentions.
Initially, the Congress denied any such meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui, but its lies were exposed by the Chinese embassy who themselves admitted to the meetings.
Later, in 2018, during a public rally, Rahul Gandhi accidently revealed the secret meeting with a couple of Chinese ministers during his trip to Kailash Mansarovar, which raised quite a few eyebrows back then because he was the party president.
