NIA has become the fourth federal agency to get involved in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case after the Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate and Narcotics Control Bureau.
Late last night, the finance ministry’s revenue department issued a notification, empowering NIA to seize narcotics during its probe in cases under NDPS act.
The notification has expanded the ambit of the ongoing probes in Sushant’s case, where drugs, money laundering and national security issues have emerged.
It has also empowered NIA to handle cases which previously were only the domain of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
This comes after several top Bollywood stars came under NCB’s scanner. The agency is investigating the drug angle in Sushant’s case.
The NCB is making all efforts to cut the supply chain by seeking help from various countries to find out the flow of drugs into India, particularly Mumbai.
This comes in the wake of several A-listers from Bollywood having come under the scanner of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which is investigating the drug angle in film actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
The NCB has sought the help of agencies in Canada, Australia, US and UK in a bid to unearth the supply chain. In 2019, out of 1,200 kilograms of cocaine that landed in India from Australia, 300 kilograms had reached Mumbai alone.
Past investigations show that cocaine comes into India through Columbia-Mozambique route and heroine through Pakistan-Punjab route. Sometimes, it is dumped using the sea route from Gujarat.
The ISI-controlled Dubai-Karachi gang peddle drugs through their agents and cough up money which in turn is used to funs terror.
